Selling Houses Australia: Hoarder house in Elanora
Elanora, QLD
Arriving at Jeni’s home in Elanora, Queensland was a gorgeous surprise – the property is a stunning Queenslander surrounded by rolling green lawns and stately palm trees. Upon closer inspection, the challenges of the project were revealed – as the home of a hoarder, it was in fact a huge and difficult project for Selling Houses Australia’s Wendy Moore and Dennis Scott. Owner Jeni, together with her daughter Sally-Anne, was taking the first step to address her hoarding disorder by clearing out the home, attempting to sell it and downsizing.
Did the Elanora home on Selling Houses Australia sell?
Selling Houses Australia doesn’t always deliver the expected outcomes, and that’s because it’s real life. ““It was obvious from the start, this was a massive step forward for Jeni to let us into her life and help her start in the right path,” says Wendy Moore. “Although she did get strong offers, she needs some time to come to terms with this change. I’m so proud of her for taking this first step though, and I really loved being able to help her.”
Kitchen: Wendy’s to-do list for this kitchen was long. After a good declutter, she looked to new cabinetry including doors from Kaboodle and handles in polished nickel from Kethy, finished with benchtops and splashback by Granite Transformations. Flooring is Quick-Step Intenso Smoked Mountain Oak Extra Matt from Flooring Xtra. All new appliances from Euromaid, sinks and taps from Blanco and and downlights from The Lighting Superstore, plus new window furnishings (Wood Essence in Warm White from Luxaflex and a fresh splash of Wattyl paint ‘Aspriation’ are the final touches. Phew!
Dining Room: Can you see past the possessions? It was tough - but Wendy uncovered a simply lovely home. Now, light and air flows! The team cleaned up the original floorboards, brought in fresh paint and window dressings, and delivered a clean, fresh and classic home overflowing with style - instead of stuff.
Living room: The biggest transformation was in the feel of this home, which now has a serene and relaxing vibe. It started with the palette, fresh whites and soothing tones of blue (Wattyl ‘Dewkist’ above the dado rail and ‘Wattyl White’ below). Artwork from Art Lovers Australia really lifts the mood.
Bedroom: Allowing the team into this much-loved home was a plea for help from Jeni. Not every project on Selling Houses Australia gets the expected outcome, and that’s because it’s real life. Jeni and Sally-Anne were overwhelmed and needed professional help to get started. In the newly refreshed master bedroom, the bed is styled up with bedlinen from Legend Linen and cushions from Rapee.
