Selling Houses Australia’s coastal update in Clermont

A budget renovation delivering big results

Selling Houses Australia launched Season 15 with an impressive little update. Interiors expert Wendy Moore, landscaper Dennis Scott and host Andrew Winter were faced with the update of a very run-down but classic Queenslander in the historic town of Clermont, almost 1000kms north of Brisbane. Homeowner Paige and her fiance, Brandan, were struggling to offload this tiny three-bedroom house. The couple were reluctant to spend any more money on the property, leaving Wendy and Dennis with a super tight budget for the update. While this is often seen as a negative in interior design, it’s a test that often gives the most satisfaction. Wendy and Dennis took on the challenge to deliver a teeny-tiny home with big heart. Here’s what they achieved:

Budget kitchen renovation ideas on Selling Houses Australia

Kitchen: Swipe to see the before! For this cheap but extremely cheerful update, the Selling Houses Australia team brought in American Oak bench tops from Bunnings and a suite of fab new appliances from Euromaid, including a Eclipse 60cm oven, a recirculating rangehood, and a 474L French-door fridge. For the finishing touches, new timber handles were added from Kethy, along with benchtop appliances from Morphy Richards in colour Nude. Not all shopping was from the big brands – Wendy picked up the tiles for the splashback from a local hardware store.

“Keeping costs low was an absolute necessity for the homeowners, and because this particular area is not a housing market that moves quickly, every dollar spent was a risk of overcapitalising” ~ Wendy Moore

A budget dining room created

This kitchen had some serious wasted space. Wendy saw a fantastic opportunity to bring some real functionality to the space in a really simple way. By updating the flooring (which was mismatched throughout the home - four different kinds!) to continuous Merseyside Vista Lexington in White Oak from Flooring Xtra, Wendy was able to add a dining zone. Grounded by an ‘Atrium’ rug in Diamond Tesselate, this new area is a real selling point for families, while the consistent flooring helps the space feel larger.

Small space living room ideas

This little home just needed a bit of attention, having survived decades of hard living. With new flooring from Flooring Xtra, fresh paint and sprinkling of love, she shined again. Keeping costs low was an absolute necessity for the homeowners, and because this particular area is not a housing market that moves quickly, every dollar spent was a risk of overcapitalising.

Small bedroom with personality

In the bedroom, the star of the show is the Denmark gas lift bed frame from Snooze, which has lots of practical storage underneath. Wendy picked up the rattan shade at The Lighting Superstore, and paired a warming palette of rusty ochre and earth browns with cool blues for an on-trend colour combination that sets a serene scene.

Did Selling Houses Australia Clermont sell?

It was a tough housing market in Clermont when the show was filmed. The Clermont home did not sell, but the owners were able to lease the property, which relieved some financial pressure. We wish them all the best and hope the market picks up soon! If you want to watch Clermont Selling Houses Australia, you can stream it here.

We’ll be sharing each renovation from Selling Houses Australia as it airs.
